The target student group would be a Grade 4 elementary class of mixed gender, mixed ability students. The class would be comprised of twenty to thirty nine and ten year olds with no previous exposure to studies in the medieval period. According to the Ontario Social Studies Curriculum document (2004), by the end of Grade 4, students will "identify and describe major features of daily life and social organization in medieval European societies from about 500 to 1500 C.E." More specifically, they would be able to "describe the hierarchical structure of medieval society and the types of people in it, describe aspects of daily life for men, women, and children ( e.g., peasants, officials, scholars, clergy, merchants, artisans, royalty, nobles), and explain how and why different groups cooperated or came into conflict at different times."

Cross curricular integration includes Language Arts Writing expectation which determines students will identify and order main ideas and supporting details and group them into units that could be used to develop a summary, using a variety of graphic and organizational patterns. In The Arts, Drama expectations suggest students create and present a short choreography individually or in a group where by they enact or create, rehearse, and present drama and dance works based on novels, stories, poems, and plays.

The classroom would be equiped with four or five desktop computers and would have limited access to a computer lab and mobile lab of notebook computers. High speed internet access would be available along with printers and other input devices such as scanners and USB drives.
